The classification of ski goggles is actually the classification of lenses, including cylindrical, and spherical.
Cylindrical Design: The cylindrical lens is vertically flat with curved sides, giving it an understated design. This design is becoming increasingly popular as it has more of a "retro" look. But cylindrical lenses are more easily to cause glare because their vertical axis is flat. The optics may not be the best, but most cylindrical goggles are designed to be close enough to your face and give you the widest, largest peripheral field of view.
Spherical Design: Spherical goggles have a rounded, bubble-like appearance that provides superior peripheral vision with less distortion. The curve of the lens also reduces glare because there are few flat spots where light can create glare to damage the eyes. Another benefit of spherical lenses is the increased volume inside the ski goggles, which helps reduce fogging.
